Dr. Kristin Wiisanen joined Âé¶¹Ó°Òô in 2023 from the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, where she served as Associate Dean for Lifelong Learning and oversaw 12 fully online health science graduate programs and more than 100 faculty members to educate thousands of students annually. Dr. Wiisanen’s tenure at University of Florida included a variety of other leadership roles, including Director of the UF Health Precision Medicine Program, founding Director of Graduate Programs in Precision and Personalized Medicine, Director of Pharmacogenomics Residency and Clinical Fellowship programs, Director of Continuing Education, and Director of Experiential Education.
Dr. Wiisanen is a pharmacist whose areas of teaching content expertise include pharmacogenomics, precision medicine, drug information, medical writing and editing, preceptor development and entrepreneurship. Her research and practice interests include clinical implementation of pharmacogenomics and precision medicine. While at the University of Florida, she designed and developed a National Institutes of Health-funded online implementation resource for clinical pharmacogenomics and designed and co-developed the PROP™ Cytochrome P450 2D6 Phenoconversion Calculator, which is used worldwide by clinicians and researchers. Her record of scholarship includes more than 75 peer-reviewed journal publications and book chapters and seven textbooks.
In the area of service, Dr. Wiisanen has held elected positions in the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and the American Pharmacists Association, including as an elected member of the American Pharmacists Association Executive Council. She is an editorial board member for the journal Pharmacotherapy and has served as Editor-in-Chief of Pharmacy Today for more than ten years. Dr. Wiisanen received the American Pharmacists Association Distinguished Achievement Award in Clinical Service in 2012 for her national work on preceptor development and the STRIPE Double Helix Award for Outstanding Achievement in Pharmacogenomics in 2024. She is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American Pharmacists Association and was an inaugural Entrepreneurship Faculty Fellow at the University of Florida.
Dr. Wiisanen earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Florida in 1998 and completed residency training at the Medical College of Virginia. She has also completed coursework on Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare through the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Executive Education program.
